WHAT IS THE AMAZON BUY BOX?

The Buy Box is the main price displayed in the top right section of the Amazon product page. This is the price and seller used when a customer clicks the "Add to Cart" button. When a seller's price appears in this section of the product page, the seller is said to have "won the Buy Box". This drastically increases their chances of selling the item. Buy Box winners are determined based on a multitude of factors that vary widely: price, category, seller rating, offered quantity, seller's time on Amazon and other factors that Amazon doesn't share. In order to win the Buy Box, sellers attempt to maintain a high rating, consistent stock and competitive prices.

WHAT ARE AMAZON FBA AND FBM?

Amazon operates two different product fulfillment models: FBA and FBM. FBA stands for Fulfillment by Amazon. FBM stands for Fulfillment by Merchant. Amazon picks, packs, and ships your product for you with FBA. Simply get your product to an Amazon fulfillment center (at their discounted shipping rates) and Amazon handles all the rest. You can read more about Fulfillment by Amazon from Amazon here. The seller is responsible for fulfilling the order with FBM. Amazon notifies the seller that they made a sale and at that point the seller packs, ships and provides customer service (including servicing returns). The seller is responsible for listing the product with both fulfillment methods. With FBA, Amazon fulfills sales and with FBM, the seller packs and ships directly to the customer.

DO I NEED A UPC TO SELL MY PRODUCT ON AMAZON?

Short answer: Yes You need a specific GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) to create a product page on Amazon. The type of GTIN you use could be a UPC (most commong), ISBN (typical for books) or EAN. Long answer: You can apply for a GTIN exemption with Amazon. Here are the exception rules directly from Amazon: - If the brand, manufacturer, or publisher does not provide a GTIN for the products (for example, private-label products or handmade products).
- For non-branded products that do not have GTINs (for example, wholesale products).
- If the parts do not have a GTIN (for example, some automotive parts do not have a GTIN).
For bundles that do not have a GTIN (for example, customized bundles may not have a GTIN). Amazon will provide you with a unique identifier for your product after you receive exemption approval.
